Comments are turned off since this site is meant to serve as a portal to online MT resources.  It was created 1-26-08 by me (Judy Kammerer) in an effort to facilitate my part time return to medical transcription (MT) after a 4-year change of pace in medical librarianship.  I plan to remain a full time librarian and use MT to supplement my income. 

I had been a medical transcriptionist for 26 years, working in community & large teaching hospitals, a large multispecialty clinic, for private practice physicians, a physicians network, and from home for national transcription companies.  I was a CMT for the last 12 years.  I worked as a transcriptionist, coder, editor, quality improvement administrator, and online MT educator.

Medical transcription has been very good to me.  This career allowed me to work part time or full time as our financial needs required.  It permitted me to work from home and customize my work hours according to changing circumstances as we raised our 4 children.  It allowed me to learn and grow as I tried a variety of closely related careers.  I was able to return to college, complete a BA in Sociology (UCSD), an MA in Communicative Disorders/Audiology (SDSU), and an MLIS in Library & Information Science (SJSU).  I also completed a medical coding certificate through UCSD Extension.

Previous to moving to Coarsegold, California in 2006, I was the director of a consumer health library in San Diego for 3 years.  Currently I am a health sciences librarian at UCSF Fresno’s Medical Education Program (25%, 10 hours/week) and am contracted out to Community Regional Medical Center to manage their hospital library (75%, 30 hours/week).
